HISTORY
FAMILY BUSINESSES
Moteurs Électriques Laval was founded in 1930 by Philippe Lemay, a businessman from Montréal, with his brothers Alexandre and Henri. At that time, the company specialized in the repair of electric motors only.
In 1960, after 30 years in business, our founder’s son, André Lemay, began managing the company. Over the decades that followed, he began distributing a variety of electrical products, which stimulated growth.
In 1990, Moteurs Électriques Laval began selling variable speed drives, a visionary decision that proved to be a great success. The product offering increased considerably and the distribution sector expanded in the 90s. Moteurs Électriques Laval moved its head office to Ville Saint-Laurent in 1992 and opened a branch in Québec City in 1997.
In 2001, Denis Lemay became president. He had been working here evenings and weekends since the age of 12. After earning an engineering degree at the École Polytechnique, he participated in the significant growth of distribution.
In 2004, Moteurs Électriques Laval acquired C.B.L., a large and reputable motor repair company, with operations in Trois-Rivières and Jonquière. This acquisition has been a great success and significantly impacted the evolution of the business in the years that followed.
In 2016, the Lemay family decided that selling the business would assure its sustainability. In 2017, Moteurs Électriques Laval was purchased by the Saucier family, who committed to continuing adapting the business to suit the growing needs of industry in a constantly evolving technological environment.
Our new president, Pierre Saucier, is very happy to have acquired this Québec family business with his sons, Pierre-Antoine, Jean-Philippe and Charles-Étienne. “Denis Lemay and I have similar DNA because I too come from a family business. As a result, all our energies will be devoted to making this family project a great success in Québec and across Canada. We are confident that this transaction will be harmonious and successful because we share the same values.”
