Moteurs Électriques Laval was founded by Philippe Lemay, a Montreal entrepreneur, together with his brothers Alexandre and Henri. At the time, the company focused exclusively on electric motor repair.
The founder’s son, André Lemay, took over the leadership of the company. In the decades that followed, he diversified into the distribution of a wide range of electrical products—driving significant growth for the business.
Moteurs Électriques Laval expanded into variable frequency drives—a visionary move that proved highly successful. Its product offering grew significantly, and the distribution sector experienced rapid expansion throughout the 1990s.
Moteurs Électriques Laval relocated its head office to Ville Saint‑Laurent.
Opening of a Québec branch
Denis Lemay became president of the company. Having started working there in the evenings and on weekends at the age of 12, he took over after earning an engineering degree from École Polytechnique and contributing to the significant growth of the distribution division.
Moteurs Électriques Laval acquired C.B.L., a well-established company specializing in motor repair, with operations in Trois‑Rivières and Jonquière. This acquisition proved to be a great success and had a significant impact on the company’s evolution in the years that followed.
Moteurs Électriques Laval was sold to the Saucier family, who committed to continuing to adapt the company to the growing needs of the industry in a constantly evolving technological environment.
